How the group fits together
The two southern temples sit far apart, and the leg between them is a full day at best. Mallikarjuna is in the Nallamala forest above Srisailam, reached by the ghat road from Markapur Road station or by road from Hyderabad. Rameshwaram is an island at the other end of the peninsula, reached over the bridge by rail or road from Madurai. Hyderabad and Madurai are the two airports, so the group can be entered at one end and left at the other.
The group suits a southern season. Both temples are busy on Mahashivratri, and both reward a night rather than a day trip: Srisailam for the forest and the dam, Rameshwaram for the corridor of wells and the sea. Either one alone works as a long weekend.
