Where to stay near each of the 12 jyotirlinga temples

One page per temple, grouped here so a trip can be planned in one pass. Each stay page covers the same three things: what is within walking distance of the gate, roughly what each band costs, and how to book it.

The cheapest rooms are the closest ones

At every one of the twelve, the cheapest beds are the ones the temple's own trust runs. Trust guest houses and dharamshalas sit at or near the gate, charge a fraction of the town rate, and often cannot be booked online at all: you call, or you turn up and take what is free. They are plain rooms, sometimes shared, and they are the option most first-time visitors never check.

Read each stay page top to bottom. The opening section is always the trust rooms and the dharamshalas, then the town hotels, then the option of sleeping in the nearest city and driving in.

How to pick where to sleep

Four rules that settle the question for most trips.

Walk time beats star ratingThe gates open early and the queue that matters starts before dawn. A plain room ten minutes from the gate is worth more than a better hotel an hour away.
Match the room to the aartiIf the plan is a pre-dawn or a late-night aarti, stay in the town. If the day starts after breakfast, a hotel on the highway is fine and cheaper.
Book the festival nights firstMahashivratri and Shravan fill the towns that hold a big festival, and the rooms go weeks ahead. Fix those nights before anything else on the trip.
Keep a fallback outside townHill temples and the ones with a long ghat road have a thin supply of rooms. Know the nearest city with a real choice, in case the town is full.

Two things to check before you book

What the price includes

Most rooms near a temple gate are simple and priced per room, not per person. Parking, hot water and a late check-out are often extras, and the town rate rises sharply on festival and long-weekend nights.

How the last walk works

Cars stop well before the gate at most of the twelve. The distance from that point to the queue is on each stay page, because with luggage in hand it decides which side of town to book.
